This former KuK field fortification from 1915 (WW1) consists of an artillery base above ground and a bombproof armoured howitzer battery built underground in the rock. The fortification is fully preserved and can be visited. Admission is free and there are guided tours of the replacemen fort in English, German and, of course, Italian. The site is located above Compet (municipality of Vignola Falesina) in Trentino at an altitude of 1508 metres. The opening hours are in good weather conditions: Saturday afternoon 15.00-18.00, Sunday all day from 9.30 to 17.00. From the beginning of June to the end of September. You can either travel from Levico in Valsugana in the direction of Panarotta up to the Compet Pass (provincial road Sp11). Alternatively, access is possible from Pergine via Asizzi and Vignola Falesina (provincial road Sp12). However, this road is very narrow and winding and is closed to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. This road is absolutely not recommended for campers or caravans. Some have already got stuck there and had to be rescued at great expense. From Compet, it is about 15-20 minutes' easy walk (forest road) with little difference in altitude. Caution! The use of vehicles and motorbikes is strictly forbidden and will be severely penalised unless you have permission from the province. The area is permanently monitored by the forest police, even at weekends. This is state police with all sovereign rights. So please follow the rules!
From the place you have a marvellous view of the Valsugana and the plateau of the 7 municipalities and of course a perfect panoramic view of Trentino. The documentation includes the book in Italian and a trilingual CD with the same content. These items are not for sale and will not be sent out. Enquiries are pointless and will not be answered. There is also a station for charging the battery of an e-bike.
